Sanity in the Smokies!

Wow, the colors in Wears Valley were glorious. I shot the photo above from the cabin belonging to our friends, June and Rick Barbas. Although the colors are not at their peak, it was still breath taking. Our friends rent their cabin out to anyone interested in relaxing in a beautiful mountain setting. Consider renting the cabin for a weekend or a week. More to come when I have an internet connection again...

Going to the Great Smoky Mountains to see the Autumn Colors

Yellow Splendor, originally uploaded by Gail S.

The Sanity Group (dear friends who first connected through our work at Jimmy Dean Foods) is taking a road trip! We are heading to Wears Valley in East Tennessee.

Wears Valley is one of the most beautiful areas surrounding the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Nestled next to the northern border of the park, Wears Valley has majestic mountains, babbling brooks, spacious green meadows, lovely woodlands and abundant wildlife. It is an area of peace and quiet solitude surrounded by the wonders of nature in all her splendor and glory.

Wears Valley is six miles long and four miles wide. There are gaps in the mountains at each end of the valley which is completely surrounded by mountains such as Cove Mountain, Bench Mountain, Pine Mountain, Hatcher Mountain, Rocky Mountain and Little Roundtop.

Despite the growing development of this area, this wonderful valley has managed to hold on to its old country charm and flavor. Snuggled next to the developments are cattle and tobacco farms, quaint old churches, rustic barns and friendly people.

Wears Valley is located between Pigeon Forge and Townsend in the area surrounding Highway 321S (Wears Valley Road). It has an interesting and exciting history, one that continues today in this thriving and growing mountain community.

Here's our group. We've been gathering every few months for more than 8 years. We've celebrated so much together - birthdays, marriages, holidays, new baby, new jobs, new cars, and we've supported one another through the loss of loved ones. Sanity. This is our first time to actually vacation together. It should be fun. Left to right: June, Ayn, Mark and Gail. Note: I think I've been chopped out of the photo. Just click the photo to see the entire thing...my blogging skills are pretty limited!
