Our first day on the road was uneventful. We knew we would spend our first two days getting mileage behind us as we made our way to the western side of South Dakota. Unlike our typical bike trips, we spent the entire day on Interstates -- from Tennessee to St. Louis, Missouri. It's a great way to chew up the miles, a miserable way to see America and meet interesting people -- our ultimate objective. We spent the night at Foristell, Missouri, just 30 miles west of St. Louis, nearly 400 miles from our haven in Fayette County, Tennessee. It seems like we will never get to the Black Hills.
